    Step by Step Tutorial

Step 1: Prepare the Craft Papers

DIY mother's day card step 1

Select different colored craft papers for the flowers. Use colored craft papers for the double heart pattern, flowers and leaves. Use cardstock paper for the watering can pattern. Trace the template patterns on the selected papers and cut them out nicely.

Step 2: Create the Rolled Flowers

DIY mother's day card step 2

Roll the spiral patterns to create rolled flowers. Stick 2 flower cutouts together, crisscross wise. Glue the rolled flower on the center of the 2 attached flowers. Also, fold the leaf patterns to create crease along the middle line (lengthwise). Attach the semi circular pattern on teh top side of the watering can, keep it attached on the back side.

Step 3: Attach the Flowers to the Watering Can

One by one attach the paper flowers to the semi-circular part of the watering can.

Step 4: Add Leaves and Details

Now attach the leaf cutouts between the flowers and try to fill the semi circular part of the watering can with the paper flowers and leaves. Use a black marker pen to trace a thin border around the watering can.

Step 5: Cut Out the Double Heart Pattern

Trace the double heart pattern on a red or pink craft paper and cut it out using scissors.

Step 6: Attach the Heart Card

Attach any one of the hearts on the center of the watering can and keeping the other heart free. Fold the double heart along the line between them to form the heart card. Write down your message inside the card.

Essential Tips for Beginners (Avoid These Common Mistakes!)

    1. For flowers, take thin paper as it is easier to roll and shape properly. Thick paper makes rolling difficult and uneven.
    2. Do not rush when cutting, rushing often leads to uneven edges and messy shapes. Take your time for cleaner, more precise cuts.
    3. Avoid using too much glue, excess glue can warp the paper and make it messy. Use a glue stick for flat pieces and a glue gun for rolled flowers.
    4. Let the glue dry before moving on, handling pieces too soon can make them shift or fall apart. Give them a minute to set properly.
    5. Roll flowers loosely at first, if you roll too tightly, the petals won’t open naturally. Start loose and adjust as needed.
    6. Be careful when folding leaves, press gently to create a crease instead of a hard fold, so they look more natural.
    7. If you make a mistake, adjust instead of restarting, trim the piece, reposition it, or turn it into a creative detail rather than starting over.
    8. Keep it simple if you’re new, avoid overcomplicating the design. Once you’re comfortable, add more details.

Wasn’t that fun and easy! Make one for your mom for this mother’s day and let her know how awesome she is!
